In October, we’re doing something in our Poetry Book Club that we’ve never done before. We’re featuring a book that will be available to the general public at the time we discuss it, and we’re doing it because the book we want to read is Max Ritvo’s Four Reincarnations.
We’d been talking about doing this book for a while, and were hoping that Max would be able to talk with us about his work. Sadly, Max passed away on August 23, and when news of his death was made public, we decided that we’d still pursue the book, and that we would use this as an opportunity for people outside the book club to both join in a conversation about Max’s work and to celebrate his life. We’ll be holding a chat at the end of the month as usual, but anyone who wants to join in will be welcome, and instead of talking to Max, we’ll be talking about Max with each other and with the people at Milkweed who made his last book possible.
Four Reincarnations will be available to the general public on September 30, and we’ll be mailing copies to our members around that time. If you’d like to join the Rumpus Poetry Book Club as a continuing member, you can join by the month, for six months, or annually. But for this month only, if you want to get your own copy of Four Reincarnations and just hang out on our Facebook page and talk about his book, you’re welcome to join us. Let’s celebrate this wonderful writer who left us far too soon.
