Sunday 11/20: As the protests to protect Native land and water continue up north, Native authors Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz and Dina Gilio-Whitaker will read and answer questions about their new, critically acclaimed nonfiction book, All the Real Indians Died Off: And 20 Other Myths about Native Americans (Random House). The event is hosted and sponsored by Birchbark Books. Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church. 7 p.m., free.
Monday 11/21: Walker Art Center’s two-day event, Avante Museology, continues with a series of conversations between authors and artists. Day two begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m., and includes Anton Vidokle, Sohrab Mohebbi, Elizabeth Povinelli, Ane Hjort Guttu and Nisa Mackie in conversation, and Timothy Morton and Cary Wolfe in conversation. Admission is $45 ($25 for museum members).
Tuesday 11/22: Due to Thanksgiving, it seems like all the literary events are happening Tuesday. Here’s three to see:
The mid-afternoon launch party for Poetry City USA, Volume 6, will take place at Sisyphus Brewing, featuring readings from various contributors. Editorial staff will open the evening by reading poems by contributors unable to attend the launch. 2–3 p.m., free.
Catch the next installment of Queer Voices Reading Series over in Lyndale. Featured readers include Eyenga Bokamba, Greg Hewett, Lucas Scheelk, and Dr. Felicia Washington Sy. Intermedia Arts. 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Head down to Bryant for the 555 Reading Series at Five Watt Coffee. This monthly event showcases five diverse writers each reading for only five minutes. November’s features include Fayise Abrahim Tensae, Jeanne Lutz, Mary Jo Thompson, Michael Torres, and Abby Travis. 8–9 p.m.
Friday 11/25: Author and speaker John Coy will present his new novel, Gap Life (Macmillan), at Addendum Books in Saint Paul.
