At Amsterdam Bar and Hall, author Jim Walsh will read from his new book Gold Experience: Following Prince in the ’90s. A Q&A with MPR’s Andrea Swensson will follow the reading. 7 p.m., free (but you should RSVP).

Wednesday 1/25: The Fireside Reading Series at Hamline Midway Library features poets Lara Mimosa Montes, Chris Santiago, Sun Yung Shin. 7 p.m., free.

Dr. Kyra Mesich, author of The Strength of Sensitivity, will lead a workshop on empathy at Magers & Quinn. 7 p.m., free.

Thursday 1/26: Fanny Howe will present and answer questions about her new book The Needle’s Eye: Passing Through Youth over at Common Good Books. Oprah Magazine calls the book, “A meditation on time, violence, and chance by “one of America’s most dazzling poets.” 7 p.m., free.

Saturday 1/28: Novelist Katherine L. Holmes will read from her new book, The Tug of the Wishbone. Eat My Words Bookstore, 3 p.m., free.
