Sunday 3/19: As always, the Uptown Poetry Slam is going down at The Green Mill. Open mic starts at 7 p.m. followed by the slam itself. $7, 21+.
Tuesday 3/21: Kathleen Rooney discusses her books O, Democracy! and Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk at the Cigar Society of Chicago. 5:30 p.m., free.
The Poetry Foundation continues its Open Door Reading Series with readings from Northwestern University’s C. Russell Price and his student Monica Garcia and Young Chicago Authors’ Kevin Coval and his student H. Melt. 7 p.m., free.
Wednesday 3/22: Jeanette Hurt, author of Drink Like a Woman, hosts a presentation called Women Behind Bars: An Illicit History of Women and Bartending. For this event, the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board will be donating women-crafted cheeses that will pair well with the free cocktail samples from woman-owned North Shore Distillery.
