Friday 7/14: Since it was rained-out last time, head to Hollywood Beach for the seventh installment of the CHIMERA reading series! Readers include Robert Carey, Jessica DeArcangelis, and Bréia Kokeb. 7 p.m., donations to Animalia encouraged.    

Visit Women & Children First to celebrate the launch of Erika L. Sánchez‘s poetry collection, Lessons on Expulsion. 7:30 p.m., free.

Saturday 7/15: Joe Rulli (The Chicago Haymarket Affair) and Steve Bellinger (The Chronocar) will be at The Book Cellar presenting on the theme of “History in Fiction and Non-Fiction: Books for the Post Truth Age.” 5 p.m., free.

Sunday 7/16: Rhino on Roscoe, hosted by Rhino Poetry, returns to The Village Tap for their annual summer poetry extravaganza! Featured readers include Faisal Mohyuddin, Keith Wilson, Ruth Goring, and more. 4 p.m., free.

As always, the Uptown Poetry Slam is going down at The Green Mill. Open mic starts at 7 p.m. followed by the slam itself. $7, 21+.

Wednesday 7/19: The Activism Series at Women & Children First continues with a presentation and Q&A with Women Employed, whose mission is to improve women’s economic status and remove barriers to economic equity. 7 p.m., free.

Thursday 7/20: The TallGrass Writers Guild returns to The Book Cellar with readings on the theme “Summertime Adventures.” 7 p.m., free.
