Saturday 7/29: The Poetry Foundation, Crescendo Literary, and the National Museum of Mexican Art present the second annual Chicago Poetry Block Party! Performers include Eve Ewing, Nate Marshall, The Happiness Club, Chicago Mariachi Project, and more. National Museum of Mexican Art, 2 p.m., free.
Sunday 7/30: As always, the Uptown Poetry Slam is going down at The Green Mill. Open mic starts at 7 p.m. followed by the slam itself. $7, 21+.
Monday 7/31: The Chicago chapter of Groundswell: Oral History for Social Change will be at The Book Cellar with author Amy Starecheski and her book Ours to Lose: When Squatters Became Homeowners in New York City. 7 p.m., free.
Tuesday 8/1: Women & Children First hosts the book launch party for local author Megan Stielstra‘s new essay collection, The Wrong Way to Save Your Life, at Uptown Underground. Tickets are available here for $20 and include a copy of the book. 7 p.m.
Thursday 8/3: The Book Cellar welcomes Dr. Vanessa Grubbs to discuss her book, Hundreds of Interlaced Fingers: A Kidney Doctor’s Search for the Perfect Match. 7 p.m., free.
