City Lit Books welcomes readers from The Golden Shovel Anthology: New Poems Honoring Gwendolyn Brooks. Readers include Tara Betts, Asia Calcagno, Calvin Forbes, Rebecca Hazelton, Adam M. Levin, Natalie Richardson, and Tony Trigilio. 6:30 p.m., free.

Wednesday 8/16: Women & Children First hosts Sierra Club Chicago and Citizens Climate Lobby for the August edition of their Activism Series. 7 p.m., free.

Thursday 8/17: Andrea J. Ritchie reads from Invisible No More, a timely examination of how black women, indigenous women, and women of color experience racial profiling, police brutality, and immigration enforcement. Women & Children First, 7:30 p.m., free.
