Friday 8/18: Women & Children First hosts the book launch party for Eat Only When You’re Hungry, the new novel from Lindsay Hunter. 7:30 p.m., free.

Sunday 8/20: As always, the Uptown Poetry Slam is going down at The Green Mill. Open mic starts at 7 p.m. followed by the slam itself. $7, 21+.

Monday 8/21: Essay Fiesta is happening at The Book Cellar once again! 7 p.m., donations to 826CHI encouraged.

Tuesday 8/22: Head to Women & Children First for the book launch party for Julia Keller’s new mystery, Fast Falls the Night. 7 p.m., free.

Thursday 8/24: David M. Hamlin will be at The Book Cellar to read from his book, Winter in Chicago. 7 p.m., free.
