Sunday 10/8: As always, the Uptown Poetry Slam is going down at The Green Mill. Open mic starts at 7 p.m. followed by the slam itself. $7, 21+.

Tuesday 10/10: Visit Women & Children First to celebrate the launch of Lady Killers: Deadly Women Throughout History by Tori Telfer. 7 p.m., free.

The Poetry Foundation hosts Poetry & Music as soprano Josefien Stoppelenburg and pianist Stephen Alltop offer a multifaceted program of songs inspired by the immortal poetry of numerous masters. 7 p.m., free.

Wednesday 10/11: Women & Children First welcomes Jennifer Egan to discuss her new novel Manhattan Beach with local author and former Rumpus Sunday Editor Zoe Zolbrod. 7 p.m., free.

Thursday 10/12: Poetry off the Shelf continues at The Poetry Foundation with a reading from Joyce Carol Oates. 7 p.m., free.

Head back to Women & Children First for an author panel with Eula Biss, Nami Mun, and John Freeman. 7:30 p.m., free.
