Friday 11/3: Malu Halasa will discuss her debut novel, Mother of All Pigs, at 57th Street Books. She will be joined in conversation by Adam Morgan. 6 p.m., free.

Saturday 11/4: Women & Children First hosts a poetry reading with Danez Smith and Eve Ewing. 7:30 p.m., free.

Sunday 11/5: As always, the Uptown Poetry Slam is going down at The Green Mill. Open mic starts at 7 p.m. followed by the slam itself. $7, 21+.

Monday 11/6: Unabridged Books collaborates with Center at Halsted for a night with Cleve Jones (When We Rise), in conversation with Owen Keehnen. Sidetrack, 5 p.m., free.

Wednesday 11/8: The Poetry Foundation hosts Gwendolyn Brooks’s Poems: A Centenary Celebration. Featuring CM Burroughs, Reginald Gibbons, Angela Jackson, Quraysh Ali Lansana, and Ed Roberson. Institute for the Humanities, UIC, 3 p.m., free.

Celebrate the Chicago launch of Subject to Change: Trans Poetry & Conversation, an anthology edited by H. Melt, featuring poems and interviews that illustrate the power of trans poets speaking to one another. H. Melt will be joined by local trans writers beyza ozer, Sung Yim, and Vita E. Women & Children First, 7:30 p.m. free.

Thurdsay 11/9: Join Jen Lancaster and special guest Stephanie Strohm at The Book Cellar to celebrate the release of Jen’s new YA novel, The Gatekeepers. 7 p.m., free.
