Friday 11/17: The Independent Publishing Resource Center hosts their certificate program reading series, featuring comics, images, text, poetry, and prose. IPRC, 6:30 p.m., free.

Historian and writer Linda Gordon reads from her new book, The Second Coming of the KKK: The Ku Klux Klan of the 1920s and the American Political Tradition. Powell’s City of Books, 7:30 p.m., free.

Saturday 11/18: Portland State University’s MFA in Creative Writing program hosts its regular student and alumni reading. Mother Foucault’s Bookshop, 6 p.m., free.

Jackson Galaxy, star of hit TV show My Cat From Hell, reads from his comprehensive cat guide, Total Cat Mojo. Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing, 2 p.m., free.

Sunday 11/19: Gayle Brandeis reads from her wrenching memoir, The Art of Misdiagnosis: Surviving my Mother’s Suicide, alongside Andrea Jarrell, author of I’m the One Who Got Away. Powell’s City of Books, 7:30 p.m., free.

Monday 11/20: Just in time to beat the holiday rush, join Broadway Books’s annual holiday book chat where you’ll learn about some of the best recommendations for new books this season. There will be door prizes and refreshments. Attendance is limited, registration strongly suggested. Broadway Books, 7 p.m., $15 entry which can be used to any in store purchase.

Bill McKibben entertains the next speculative civil war in his new book, Radio Free Vermont: A Fable of Resistance. Powell’s City of Books, 7:30 p.m., free.
