Monday 12/18: Join Rain Taxi in welcoming beloved and bestselling author Anne Fadiman to the Twin Cities! Renowned for her scintillating essay collections, Fadiman will present her new book, The Wine Lover’s Daughter. Soap Factory, 7:30 p.m., $5.

Tuesday 12/19: It’s Carol Connolly’s Reading by Writers! December’s Reading by Writers will feature Maryann Corbett, Norita Dittberner-Jax, Mary Moore Easter, Kevin FitzPatrick, and Michael Moos. Hosted by Tim Nolan, who will also be reading. The University Club of St. Paul, 7:30 p.m., free.

Wednesday 12/20: It’s the Moth StorySLAM! This month’s topic is DIRT: squalor, smut, filth, muck, and mire! Dig it, dish it, spread it, hose it off. Dirt cheap, dirt poor, treated like dirt. Five minutes, one mic, no notes. The Amsterdam Bar, 6:30 p.m., $10.

Friday 12/22: Danni Starr will read from her book Empathy and Eyebrows. SubText Books, 7 p.m., free.
