Monday 3/19: Kevin Young, author of Bunk: The Rise of Hoaxes, Humbug, Plagiarists, Phonies, Post-Facts, and Fake News, will be in conversation with Marlon James. Thursday 3/22: Chalk Talk Narrative is a forum for writers to gather, experiment, and find support. Each forum has a theme, an open mic, and a featured writer. Featured writers choose creative ways to interact with the crowd. March’s theme is “Family & The 6-Word Memoir.” The featured writer will be Robin Sauerwein. Join the UMN Creative Writing Program for the annual reading by authors of debut publications. University of Minnesota MFA alums Isaac Butler, Sally Franson, and Jon Lurie will all read from their books. After the reading, the Creative Writing Program celebrates its 21st birthday! Stay and mingle with MFA students past, present, and future as we reflect on 21 years of great writing. (And what would a 21st birthday be without a cash bar? Plus a book raffle!) Frederick R. Friday 3/23: Cracked Walnut presents an experimental experience of music, poetry, and visual art on a theme. Four writers will share a piece as they walk in the front door, across the long room, and out the back while a painting inspired by the poems develops in the background. A musical interlude will introduce a new poet every 15 minutes before time to enjoy cookies, tea, and conversation about the poetry with the crowd between performances. Saturday 3/24: It’s the Rosemount Writers Festival! Join area writers, readers, and literary enthusiasts for the 2nd annual Rosemount Writers Festival and Book Fair. This is a day-long celebration of the literary arts with workshops, signings, a free book fair, and opportunities to meet literary professionals. The 2018 keynote speaker will be Lorna Landvik. Steeple Center, 9 a.m., $15 per class.
Excelsior Bay Books will host The Literature Lovers’ Luncheon, an event with national and local authors and light refreshments. Featured authors for March are Keziah Frost, Ben Ludwig, Peter Heller, and Sara Blaedel. Hazeltine National Golf Club, 11 a.m., $33, RSVP.
