“Porochista Khakpour is an author, teacher, advocate, friend, and, in no uncertain terms, a survivor,” write Esmé Weijun Wang (author of The Border of Paradise and the forthcoming The Collected Schizophrenias) and Janice Lee (author and Founding Editor/Executive Editor of Entropy) on the YouCaring fundraiser page for Porochista Khakpour. Porochista (author of Sons and Other Flammable Objects and The Last Illusion) was diagnosed with late stage Lyme Disease in 2011, and has been in and out of hospitals for the last decade. Her forthcoming memoir, SICK, examines what it means to live with and challenges traditional narratives around chronic illness.
Esmé and Janice are reaching out to friends and strangers alike to help Porochista cover her medical bills, help finance her book tour for SICK, and “hopefully help usher in a brighter future for the next generation” of Lyme disease sufferers. Every dollar you can give matters, so please consider making a donation.
