“Porochista Khakpour is an author, teacher, advocate, friend, and, in no uncertain terms, a survivor,” write Esmé Weijun Wang (author of The Border of Paradise and the forthcoming The Collected Schizophrenias) and Janice Lee (author and Founding Editor/Executive Editor of Entropy) on the YouCaring fundraiser page for Porochista Khakpour. Porochista (author of Sons and Other Flammable Objects and The Last Illusion) was diagnosed with late stage Lyme Disease in 2011, and has been in and out of hospitals for the last decade. Her forthcoming memoir, SICK, examines what it means to live with and challenges traditional narratives around chronic illness.
