Friday 8/24: Simone John will read from her debut full-length poetry collection Testify, which experiments with documentary poetics to uplift stories of black people impacted by state-sanctioned violence. 6 p.m. at Penn Book Center.
Saturday 8/25: Head to Amalgam Comics for “Reclaiming the Headlines: A Storytelling Workshop.” Led by storyteller Jos Duncan, the three-hour workshop will use writing prompts and interactive exercises to inspire participants to create stories about living in Philadelphia. Free with RSVP. 10 a.m. at Amalgam Comics and Coffeehouse.
Sunday 8/26: The 2018 season of Performances in Public Spaces presents “Warrior Writers of the Culture Trust”, a series of poetry readings by local veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. 3 p.m. at Burholme Park.
