Moonstone Poetry will present a reading featuring local poets Sarah Blake and Nomi Stone, followed by an open mic. 7 p.m. at Fergie’s Pub.
Thursday 9/13: Join activist and musician Shawna Potter of the band War On Women, for a discussion on making spaces safer, before her show at the First Unitarian Church. 6 p.m. at Wooden Shoe Books and Records.
The Common Room will host “Love and Light: An Evening of Music, Art, and Poetry” featuring a recital of voice by soprano opera singer Elise Mark. 6 p.m. at The Common Room.
Blue Stoop will present readings by debut prose authors Alice Bolin, Andrew Martin, and Lydia Kiesling. 7 p.m. at Pen & Pencil Club.
Saturday 9/15: Apiary Magazine will host “Beer & Honey,” a fundraiser and celebration of the opening of submissions for their tenth issue. Featuring poetry and prose performances by Magnus Monk, Hiwot Adilow, Sojourner Ahébée, L’tajh Carter, David Gaines, Miri Lou, Tyra Jamison, and Catalina Rios. The reading will be followed by an open mic. 7:30 p.m. at Pentridge Station.
The Philly Improv Theater, in association with Fringe Fest, will present “The Arcane Mysteries of Vanderslice Manor,” a theatrical double feature by Noah Levine and Adam Cooper. 9:30 p.m. at Philly Improv Theater.
Sunday 9/16: Moonstone Poetry and the African American Museum in Philadelphia will present a tribute to Sonia Sanchez. The event will feature a screening of the film BaddDDD Sonia Sanchez, an interview with and poetry reading by Sanchez, and a reading by contributors to A Tribute to Sonia Sanchez. 12 p.m. at The African American Museum in Philadelphia.
Blue Stoop will host their monthly happy hour at Win Win Coffee Bar. Come catch up on their ongoing project to open a center for literary culture in Philadelphia. 5 p.m. at Win Win Coffee Bar.
Excuse My Dust returns for another hour of wit, writing, and weirdness. Featuring performances by Faye Chevalier, T.J. Hurley, and Katherine Sand, and as always, the comedic stylings of host extraordinaire Jaime Fountaine. Also, free boxed wine! 8 p.m. at Good Good Comedy Theatre.
Monday 9/17: Moonstone Poetry presents “New Voices: Philadelphia’s Emerging Poets,” a new series featuring local emerging poets under the age of twenty-five. Featured poets will be Ari Gutierrez-Sanchez and Brigitte Kolibab. Hosted by Bela Aznar. 6 p.m. at South Philly Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia.
