Wednesday 11/14: Penn Book Center will host the book launch event for Charles Bernstein’s new poetry collection Near/Miss. 6 p.m. at Penn Book Center.
The Philly Poetry Workshop at A-Space will open with a writing exercise from 7–7:30 p.m., with a critique/discussion of poems to follow. 7 p.m. at A-Space Community Center.
Tattooed Mom will host a reading and fundraiser for A Novel Idea, a new independent bookstore coming to East Passyunk! Featuring readings by Nicholas Perilli, Christina Rosso-Schneider, Britny Brooks, Amy Saul-Zerby, Rachel O’Hanlon-Rodriguez, Angelo Colavita, Josh Dale, Amanda Miska, Tshombe Herbert, and Nazeer L. The Hatchery reading series returns with a takeover by Backyard Writers, featuring readings by D. Laninga, Katherine D. Stutzman, and Adam Hofbauer. 7 p.m. at The Monkey Club.
Thursday 11/15: The Tire Fire series will present an evening of readings featuring Jeff Jackson, Nicole Steinberg, Niela Orr, and Tyrese Coleman. The reading will double as a fundraiser for the Trans Equity Project, who “seek to co-power trans identified individuals and gender minorities through peer-based counseling and mentoring, education, advocacy, and community activism, employing sex positive and harm-reduction strategies.” 7 p.m. at Tattooed Mom.
Friday 11/16: Thirty West Publishing will present an evening of readings featuring Jane-Rebecca Cannarella, Brooke Palma, Larry Narron, and Cynthia Jones. 6:30 p.m. at Big Blue Marble Bookstore.
The November installment of Disruption, a poetry reading and open mic at the African American Museum in Philadelphia, will feature poetry by Rienne Jahnai, Jacob Winterstein, Evita Colon, and Lyrispect, along with dance and vocal performance by Kingsley Ibeneche. Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 general admission. Free for AAMP members. 7 p.m. at The African American Museum in Philadelphia.

Join writer, activist, DJ, and community college professor Marissa Johnson-Valenzuela for a live performance with producer Josh Hey, Koofreh Umoren on trumpet, and Dan Nosheny on tuba, to celebrate the release of Johnson-Valenzuela’s new album No Otro Lado. 7 p.m. at Institute of Contemporary Art.
