The Dead Bards Poetry Series will host a New Year’s Bash, including readings by poets who featured in the series in 2018. Wednesday 1/23: Kelly Writers House will host a poetry reading by Deb Burnham, author of Tart Honey, with an introduction by Julia Bloch. 12 p.m. at Kelly Writers House.
One Book One Philadelphia will host “First Listen,” a public writing workshop at Philadelphia FIGHT. The focus will be on “using deep-listening activities to write untold stories and hear the perspectives of others.” 1:30 p.m. at Institute for Community Justice.
Kelly Writers House will host a poetry reading by Nasser Hussain, author of Sky Wri Tei Ngs. Hosted by Al Filries. 6 p.m. at Kelly Writers House.
Moonstone Poetry will present a reading by Jennifer Anolik, followed by an open mic! 7 p.m. at Fergie’s Pub.
Thursday 1/24: Penn Book Center will host a poetry reading featuring Andrés Cerpa, author of Bicycle in a Ransacked City: An Elegy, as well as local poets Marissa Johnson-Valenzuela and p.e. garcia! 6:30 p.m. at Penn Book Center.
Creative at the Cannery will present an evening of prose featuring readings by Carlos Jose Perez Samano, Lori Tharps, Audra J. Wolfe, and Simone Zelitch, followed by an open mic! Hosted by Christine Kendall and Matt Jakobowski. 7 p.m. at Dock Street Brewery.
The Tire Fire series will present their first reading of 2019, featuring Tyrese Coleman, Amanda Miska, June Gehringer, and Prairie M. Faul! The event will double as a fundraiser for the Women’s Medical Fund. 7 p.m. at Tattooed Mom.

Friday 1/25: The Frank O’Hara’s Last Lover series will host the launch of two new poetry collections published by new local publisher Radiator Press (edited by Ian Davisson and Ryan Eckes). Come celebrate the release of Futureless Languages by Cynthia Arrieu-King and Austerity by Marion Bell! Hosted by Jason Mitchell. 7:30 p.m. at Sam’s Morning Glory Diner.
Saturday 1/26: Wooden Shoe Books and Records will host the first edition of the the new “Lo nuestro” reading series, a monthly poetry series with a lineup of poets of color, featuring one Latinx poet per reading. The series, organized by Raquel Salas Rivera, will be co-hosted by a different poet each month. “Lo nuestro es lucha (Our thing is struggle)” will include performances by Shanel Edwards, Marquis Wright-Lee, Wes Matthews, and featured poet Malcolm Friend. Co-hosted by Ana Portnoy. 7 p.m. at Wooden Shoe Books and Records.
A Witch’s Craft will return with readings by Rebecca Kokitus, Jane-Rebecca Cannarella, Victoria Mier, Angelo Colavita, Nicholas Perilli, Christina Rosso-Schneider, Effy Winter, Erin Moran, Brittany Brown, and Kailey Tedesco, followed by an immersive discussion about the intersection of writing and magick! 7 p.m. at A Novel Idea on Passyunk.
Sunday 1/27: Moonstone Poetry will host a tribute to J.C. Todd, local poet and author of the new collection Damages of Morning. Featuring a reading by J.C. Todd, as well as contributors to Moonstone’s A Tribute to J.C. Todd, copies of which will be for sale. 2 p.m. at Fergie’s Pub.
The Random Name Poetry Series will present an evening of readings featuring Elizabeth Baber Heather Dooley, Berry Grass, and Laura Kochman! Hosted by David Hancock. 7:30 p.m. at Dahlak Paradise.
Monday 1/28: Blue Stoop will present Katrina Carrasco, author of The Best Bad Things, in conversation with Rose Skelton. 6:30 p.m. at Philly AIDS Thrift at Giovanni’s Room.
