Wednesday 1/2: Moonstone Poetry will host an evening of readings featuring Bela Aznar and Sherrie Lawyer, followed by an open mic. Hosted by Sean Lynch. 7 p.m. at Fergie’s Pub.

Friday 1/4: The grand opening of A Novel Idea on Passyunk will feature readings by a lineup of authors selected by Thirty West Publishing, including Scott Laudati, Kat Giordano, Erin Anastasia, and Josh Dale. Light refreshments and snacks provided. 7 p.m. at A Novel Idea on Passyunk.

The Philly Pigeon Poetry Slam returns with featured poet Ashley August! Organized by Jacob Winterstein, Kai Davis, and Jasmine Combs. 8:30 p.m. at PhilaMOCA. 

Saturday 1/5: The Wooden Shoe will host a resistance poetry workshop and reading with Crystal Stone, featuring an exercise in blackout poetry writing. 7 p.m. at Wooden Shoe Books and Records.

Sunday 1/6: Voices in Power will present a poetry open mic night! Twenty-five slots available; first come, first perform. 6 p.m. at The Kingdom District.

Monday 1/7: The William Way LGBT Community Center will host a free two-hour writing workshop for queer and trans people of color. Register online by January 1. Facilitated by Briyana D. Clarel. 6:30 p.m. at William Way LGBT Community Center.

The Community Drafts open mic night will return for its first installment of 2019! Sign-ups begin at 7:30. Bring your best to share. 8 p.m. at Lucky 13 Pub.
