Tim Faust discusses his groundbreaking book Health Justice Now: Single Payer and What Comes Next, which makes a case for single-payer healthcare in the US and how it can be attained. Powell’s City of Books, 7:30 p.m., free.

Another Read Through hosts their monthly last-Thursday poetry event, featuring readings from Andrea Hollander (Blue Mistaken for Sky), Paulann Petersen (One Small Sun), and Chrys Tobey (a woman is a woman is a woman). Another Read Through, 7 p.m., free.

Tuesday 10/1: Essayist Amy Long reads from her new collection Codependence, a nonlinear narrative on addiction, dependence, and selfhood. She is joined in conversation by Portland author Sophia Shalmiyev, author of Mother Winter. Valentines, 7 p.m., free.

Rene Denfeld presents her new novel, The Butterfly Girl. Powell’s City of Books, 7:30 p.m., free.
