Wednesday 10/23: Stockton University’s Visiting Writers Series will present a poetry reading by former US Poet Laureate Rita Dove. Reception at 5:30 p.m., reading at 6:30 p.m. at Stockton University.
The Hopscotch Translation Series will present Lawrence Venuti, author of Contra Instrumentalism: A Translation Polemic and translator of J. V. Foix’s Daybook 1918: Early Fragments, in conversation with Emily Wilson. 6 p.m. at Penn Book Center.
The Kelly Writers House will host a celebration of Ladysitting: My Year with Nana at the End of Her Century by Lorene Cary. 6 p.m. at Kelly Writers House.
Art with Spirits will host “Art Inspires Art,” a poetry reading featuring Krisann Janowitz, James Feichthaler, Rebecca Kokitus, and Anne-Adele Wight, as well as an open mic. 7 p.m. at Art with Spirits.

The Kelly Writers House will host an evening of poetry featuring readings by Carole Bernstein and Patrick Donnelly. 6 p.m. at Kelly Writers House.
Shakespeare & Co. will host a reading and discussion with Olga Livshin, author of A Life Replaced: Poems with Translations from Anna Akhmatova and Vladimir Gandelsman. 6:30 p.m. at Shakespeare & Co. Rittenhouse.
The Tire Fire series will present readings by Tyler Barton, Thea Brown, and Joanna C. Valente. The reading will double as a fundraiser for The Attic Youth Center, “the only organization in Philadelphia exclusively serving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth.” 7 p.m. at Tattooed Mom.
The Story Hole, a new storytelling event, will launch Thursday at the Wooden Shoe. The free show will blend curated and open mic slots. The theme for the evening is “masks.” Hosted by Vara Cooper. 7 p.m. at Wooden Shoe Books & Records.

Monday 10/28: Penn Book Center will present Liana Finck, New Yorker cartoonist and author of Excuse Me: Cartoons, Complaints, and Notes to Self. 6 p.m. at Penn Book Center.
The inaugural event in Holy Family University’s Distinguished Writers Series will be an evening with Philadelphia Poet Laureate Raquel Salas Rivera. The event is free and open to the public. 6:30 p.m. at Holy Family University.
