Thursday 12/5: The December Slamlandia Poetry Open Mic and Slam will feature a performance by NPS Haiku Champion Ben Yisrael. Open Mic begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the final WoWPS qualifying slam of the year. Rocking Frog Cafe, 6 p.m., $1-5 suggested donation.

Friday 12/6: Mother Foucault’s hosts Other People’s Poems, an opportunity to recite someone else’s poem from memory (or just observe). Mother Foucault’s Bookshop, 7 p.m., free.

Saturday 12/7: Bestselling local author Cheryl Strayed hosts Powell’s Kid’s Storytime with a reading from Yeti and Squatch in the Winter Wonderland of Oregon. Powell’s City of Books, 11 a.m., free.

Sunday 12/8: The Oregon Historical Society hosts its annual Holiday Cheer literary celebration, featuring a book sale and signing with over 50 local authors in attendance. Featuring Les AuCoin, Darcelle XV, KC Cowan, Melissa Darby, and more. Oregon Historical Society, 12 p.m., free.

John Becker and Megan Scott discuss the new 2019 edition of Joy of Cooking with Sarah Marshall, owner of Marshall’s Haute Sauce. Powell’s City of Books, 7:30 p.m., free.

Monday 12/9: Jeff VanderMeer, author of the Southern Reach trilogy, reads from his new sci-fi novel, Dead Astronauts. He will be joined in conversation by Omar El Akkad, author of American War. Powell’s City of Books, 7:30 p.m., free.
