I came through into life through the pathways of this incredible planet. Planet Earth the third planet from the sun. The ocean world. The planet of abundance and life. I arrived through the portal of the people of grace. Singing people, hands in dirt people, everyone on my mama’s side of the family are singers and priests no matter what else they do.
My father’s side, golden sun warriors, sonic innovators.
Brilliant puzzle solvers with big love capacity, and diversity in the creative arts.
My family came out of the horrors of hundreds of years of slavery owning land.
A miracle considering how horrible owning anything in this county is since the foundation of this “new world’ brand of ownership is based on the brutalities, of stealing, killing and a constant terrorizing of everything alive.
The word Freedom is a feeling and a cry.
A sorrow. A joy.
When you are in the bottom in the most horrific conditions you want to be released into an openness. When you find yourself released from that terror you may be Free but you may still in trouble trying to find home. The United States of America makes it hard.
The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor. The freedmen are advised to remain quietly at their present homes and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect at military posts and that they will not be supported in idleness either there or elsewhere. By order of Major General Granger
The best example of freedom I witness is our planet. Our life giving world thrives in a particular balance in the universe she journeys. It is a collaborative world where each element leans and relies on the other in complex ways. Humans are the most destructive force on this planet. We have almost eliminated drinkable water. We terrorize, consume, and destroy, and fight, and make everything hot and dusty. Everyone is inside of this cycle. Inside the “when will it ever end” space of survival.
When I asked my Mom how did our people survived being stolen, abused, crossing the Big Water packed in, forced into plank positions. She reminded me that everyone did not live.
Then she said the vibration in the body, a song. She did not make it feel sweet. It sounded like work effort, creation, a way out of no way. A home no one could take away.
