Eric Kroczek grew up in Michigan City, Indiana—famed for its prison, where John Dillinger and Etheridge Knight did time, as well as for its outlet mall, well known among Chicagoans for fashion savings. He attended Wabash College and the Pennsylvania Institute of Culinary Art (which is now called something else), where he learned to make Monte Cristo sandwiches from scratch. Since his retirement from professional cooking, Eric lives with his lovely wife in Muncie, Indiana, where he ekes out a living notarizing reverse mortgages for shut-ins. He does not watch cooking shows.
