Leila Aboulela, winner of the Caine Prize for African Writing, lives in Aberdeen. She is the author of four novels, The Kindness of Enemies, The Translator, a New York Times 100 Notable Books of the Year, Minaret, and Lyrics Alley, Fiction Winner of the Scottish Book Awards. Her collection of short stories, Coloured Lights, was short-listed for the MacMillan Silver PEN Award. Leila grew up in Sudan and moved, in her mid-twenties, to Scotland. www.leila-aboulela.com

The Rumpus publishes original fiction, poetry, literary humor writing, comics, essays, book reviews, and interviews with authors and artists of all kinds. Our mostly volunteer-run magazine strives to be a platform for risk-taking voices and writing that might not find a home elsewhere. We lift up new voices alongside those of more established writers our readers may already know and love. We want to bring new perspectives into the conversation that will make us all look deeper.
