Melissa Wyse has held residencies at the MacDowell Colony and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and received her MFA from American University. Her writing has appeared in publications including Shenandoah, Urbanite, and decomP. She is currently completing a collection of short fiction set in World War II Hawaii titled Moon Over Sand Island.
Characters like Mary and Rhoda hadn't been turned into stereotypes of single women in their thirties or career women or divorcees. They couldn't be: they were the first.
