Nicole Shawan Junior

Nicole Shawan Junior (they/she) is a creative nonfiction and speculative fiction writer. Junior’s work is anthologized in Edge of the World: An Anthology of Queer Travel Writing (Blair) and The Sentences That Create Us: Crafting a Writer’s Life in Prison (Haymarket Books). Their essays appear in Guernica, Oprah Daily, Zora, and elsewhere. Their writing has been nominated for Best of the Net and recognized as a Longreads Top 5 of the Week. A Haymarket Books Writing Freedom Fellow, Tin House Debut Author Over 40 resident, and Hedgebrook writer-in-residence, many organizations support Junior’s work. Born and bred in Brooklyn, Junior now lives in Philly with her children and feline familiar.
