Promising its readers “stories spiced and illustrated in a way we know you will enjoy,” it contained pictures of young women being bathed, thrashed, tied up and generally subjugated, all the time looking rather uninvolved and unconcerned. It’s unlikely that the pictures reflect Shuster’s peccadilloes or private fantasies.
