If you’re in New York on January 17th, we urge you to attend the event Writers vs Commerce at the amazing Housing Works Bookstore at 7:00pm.
“Commerce and capitalism rarely smile upon the dedicated writer. Too many of our favorite contemporary authors struggle simply to pay rent. Novelists Porochista Khakpour, Simon Van Booy, and Matthew Aaron Goodman will each address this topic. With music provided by Travis Laplante.”
We also recommend donating to their Kickstarter. Since the authors will be discussing the struggles of making a living as a writer, it seems only apropos that they get paid for their time!

What I notice most about this post is that it is directly underneath and ad asking me for $1,800 for a manuscript review. Great, that it’s for charity- but who could afford that?? Especially because writers are “against commerce.”
