Saturday 5/25: Celebrate the release of Cecil Castellucci’s Odd Duck!  She will read and sign this beautiful book illustrated by Sara Varon.  3 p.m. at Skylight Books.

Poets & Writers sponsors the California Writer’s Exchange contest, and this year’s winners Xochitl-Julisa Bermejo and Laura Joyce Davis join previous winners Elaine Beale, Sean Bernard, Larry Colker, and Allison Benis White at this reading.  4 p.m. at The Last Bookstore.

Sunday 5/26: Sparring with Beatnik Ghosts is a major event featuring Lewis MacAdams, Yvonne De la Vega,  Ashaki Jackson, Nicky Schildkraut, and many more! Hosted by Mike The Poet Sonksen. 5 p.m. at The Last Bookstore.

Monday 5/27: It’s Memorial Day and it’s Open Mic night at The Last Bookstore. Signups at 7:45, readings begin at 8 p.m.

Tuesday 5/28: Eve Ensler discusses and signs In the Body of the World: A Memoir. Doors open at 6 p.m. Event begins at 7 p.m. at All Saints Church. The event is free with the purchase of the book from Vroman’s Bookstore.

Wednesday 5/29: L.A. Zine Fest & The Pop-Hop combine forces to bring you an exquisite corpse zine-making workshop. Sign-up online and receive the prompt for the collaborative zine in advance! $10, 7 p.m. at The Pop Hop.

Thursday 5/30: Anne Carson reads from Red Doc>, presented by ALOUD. The event is full, but standby seating may be possible. 7:15 p.m. at the Downtown Central Library’s Mark Taper Auditorium

Literary Death Match is back, with readers Margot Leitman, Travis Sentell, Kathy Ebel, and Dan Crane. Judges are Rachel Kushner, Ali Wong, and Kurt Braunohler. Tickets are $7 preorder or $10 at the door. 21+ event. Doors at 6:30, show at 7:35 at Busby’s East.

Friday 5/31: Sascha Altman Dubrul reads from his new nonfiction work, Maps to the Other Side. 7:30 p.m. at Stories Books and Cafe.

Xach Fromson is a native Angeleno and the co-host/co-founder of Shades & Shadows, a sci-fi/fantasy/horror/etc. reading series here in LA. He studied creative writing at California State University Northridge, where he worked on The Northridge Review. He received an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of California Riverside Palm Desert Low Residency program, and is finishing his first novel. He appeared at Dirty Laundry Lit's "Love Sucks" event in February 2013, and has stories published in "Halloween Tales" and "Winter Horror Days" from Omnium Gatherum press. And once, he slew a dragon.
