The Parallax View, released in 1974, based on the book by Loren Singer, was scripted by Lorenzo Semple Jr. (his daughter just wrote a book about L.A called This One Is Mine). Mr. Semple also wrote the scripts for Three Days of the Condor and Papillon. After the assassination of a U.S. Senator at a party atop the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington, Joe Frady, played by a very young Warren Beatty, (his hairdo should have been listed in the credits as a supporting player) gets the scent of a larger story that involves a multinational company that is running a murder hit squad under the guise of a training institute. There is a deeply disturbing soundtrack that will haunt you for many nights, and a chase scene that will be mimicked in To Live and Die in LA years later. If you’re looking for a fantastic conspiracy movie, set in the breathtaking Pacific Northwest, with a strikingly good Warren Beatty, then you can’t go wrong with this gem.
