When I was little I would squint my eyes in a dark room and see stippled, fluorescent color. I wondered if everyone saw the same thing. Now, thanks to the DNA Rainbow Project, I have to wonder if I was seeing my own genetic reflection. The scientists/Web designers behind the site explain, “We took the genetic code from huge data files and assigned a color to every of the four bases. Then we rendered these fascinating pictures, showing the genetic code of humans in color. You can see crazy structures and strange patterns in the images, best viewed when shutting your eyes just a little bit.” So, when you’re wondering if you can squeeze people into categories, think about the chaos of these colors. And when you’re wondering what we have in common, these images in a single full-spectrum square seem to say, “everything.” (via Beautiful Decay)
