I’ve always wondered why Ada Lovelace, first female computer programmer, only legitimate child of Lord Byron, the person I idolized in high school, hasn’t been more glorified in culture, seeing as she was one of the first females to envision computers as being something beyond mere number crunching machines. Keep in mind she died in 1852. Her famed intellectual marriage with Charles Babbage, one of the fathers of the computer, provides us with the historical platform that makes the Rumpus even possible. So their names should be in our vernacular for sure.
That’s why illustrator Sydney Padua‘s new comic, Lovelace, comes as such a gift, offering up a graphic representation of the famous duo’s collaborations, but with hilarious contemporary spins. For example, we see Ada Lovelace proclaiming, “This must be twittered!” So far only two installments have been drawn: the Origin and Lovelace and Babbage Vs. The Economy, Part 2. Check it out and encourage her to write more chapters in the saga. Hopefully teenage girls will soon be idolizing Lovelace again.
