Bibliophiles of the world, take note: if you are not an inhabitant of the Twin Cities, you could be missing a chance to put your literary acumen to practical use.
The literati of the “most literate city of 2008” have banded together to create a literary scavenger hunt entitled Around the Literary Twin Cities in Almost Eighty Days, complete with lettered locales, limericks, trivia, twists and turns, mystery clues, and loads of treasure for the patient and determine participants.
The Scavenger Hunt arose out of a desire to celebrate the anniversaries of some of the cities’ most revered publishing establishments, such as Graywolf Press and Coffee House Press, and to encourage residents to explore the many bookstores in the area.
To have a chance at the grand prix of bookishness, participants must answer a trivia question correctly every week at one of two designated sites as well as accumulate stamps in their passport. Clues pertain to the rich literary legends and characters of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, and participants must visit museums, cafes, bookstore, and presses in order to redeem their answer for a stamp. The person with the best grasp of local lore at the end of the hunt–which lasts from October 10th to December 26th–could win a grand prize worth over $1,000.
