Teri Woods, a “pioneer … urban or hip-hop fiction” author, recently tried to have a party to celebrate the release of her new book Alibi in a Soho night club called Greenhouse. When she got there, she found that some white friends had made it past the velvet rope, while more than a hundred of her black guests had been turned away at the door without reason.
Woods also reported getting text messages from the club’s owner that referred to “ur people” and that said, “I couldn’t let in 300lb girls.”
Woods responded, “There was nobody out there who was fat, and even if there was a fat person, who cares?”
The club owner says it’s all “pretty much bogus,” but the fact that even he can’t bring himself to say it’s entirely bogus doesn’t bode well for him.
In an act of complete awesomeness, some guests and Woods’ lawyer are now suing the club for 1 billion dollars. Yes, I said a billion dollars. (via Bookninja)
