This week in San Francisco: The last Monthly Rumpus of the year rocks The Makeout Room, cupcakes meet fine art at Project One Gallery, and Paul Madonna signs books, while SF publisher, Chronicle Books, practically gives theirs away.
Monday 12/14: It’s that time again! The December Monthly Rumpus is upon us with readings from Andrew Leland, James Nestor, Michelle Gagnon, Robert Mailer Anderson, and Andrew Sean Greer. Comedy from W. Kamau Bell, music by Michael Mullen of The Size Queens, and a special performance by Dan Wolf of Felonious. As always, it’s $10 cheap and hosted by the lovely Stephen Elliott. 21+, 7pm @ The Makeout Room (3225 22nd St.)
Tuesday 12/15: Get your fill of pop art, superheroes, and cupcakes at the opening of Ryan Jones’ new exhibit at Project One Gallery. Sponsored by 7X7 Magazine, the art bash comes complete with DJ, drinks, and (most importantly) free cupcakes from That Takes the Cake bakery. 6-9pm, 251 Rhode Island st.
Wednesday 12/16: Head down to the San Francisco Motorcycle Club for an evening of literature and booze to benefit San Francisco State University’s Fourteen Hills magazine release. The event is free and features readings and art by SFSU students. 7pm, 2194 Folsom St. (@ 18th St.)
Thursday 12/17: Holy hardcovers, Batman! Chronicle Books is hosting a warehouse sale at their corporate headquarters just in time for the holidays with everything marked down to 80% off. Even if you’re a tinsel-hating holiday-abstaining anti-shopper, you’d be hard-pressed to come up with a better way to stock up on reading for the new year while supporting a local publisher. 5-7pm, 680 Second St.
Friday 12/18: Big Umbrella Studios hosts the Menagerie Collective’s winter art show with an opening reception at 7pm. 906&1/2 Divisadero St.
Saturday 12/19: Meet Paul Madonna in the flesh and snag a signed copy of Album 01 at Electric works from 2-4pm. (Pro tip: Read The Rumpus interview with Mr. Madonna for one of the most eloquent explanations of the creative process even given by a visual artist). 2-4pm, 130 8th st.
Sunday 12/20: Haul ass down to the Fort Mason Center’s Herbst Pavilion for the Renegade Holiday Craft Fair. Even if you’re miraculously done with your holiday shopping, stop by for the sweet raffle prizes and free copies of Readymade magazine. 11am-7pm.
