This week, celebrate Christmas (or don’t), partake in a jingly Reindeer Run Flash Mob, and then celebrate your inner goth kid at The Nightmare After Christmas.
Monday 12/21: Celebrate the holiday season with class (because everyone knows that jazz music is for classy adult folk). Renowned jazz pianist, Larry Vuckovich takes over Yoshi’s. $12 advance tickets/$16 at the door, 1330 Filmore St.
Tuesday 12/22: Four words: Reindeer Run Flash Mob. This one was so darn good, I just had to quote it: Meet at the mall wearing your antlers (so everybody can find each other) but muffling your jinglies (so we don’t prematurely attract too much attention). Group up and await further instructions. If anybody asks you what’s going on, tell them you’re just there to do some last-minute holiday shopping in festive gear and have no idea why everybody else is wearing antlers too. (*Note: This activity will not violate any laws or leave a mess.) 3pm at the Westfield San Francisco Centre (a.k.a. the mall).
Wednesday 12/23: I know it’s a cop out, but come on, it’s Christmas week. So, while the rest of San Francisco nightlife is taking the week off, treat yourself to Beach Blanket Babylon’s 21+ holiday matinee. 5pm, 678 Green St.
Thursday 12/24: Christmas Eve, a night of magical anticipation for children around the world. Also, a day of hellish last minute shopping for adults around the world, and retail workers’ worst nightmare. Unless you’re Jewish, in which case you’re probably sitting pretty and snacking on some leftover latkes. Whatever your holiday plans, go spend some time with your friends and family. Then, ditch them tomorrow in favor of Zombie X-mas!
Friday 12/25: Looking for an alternative to bauble laden trees and the obligatory re-gifting of hideous sweaters? Spend the day at Pirate Cat Radio’s Zombie X-mas sextuple feature (I Walked with a Zombie, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Zombie, Braindead, and Wild Zero). The fun starts at noon and includes popcorn, eggnog, and hot toddies for those non-brain-eating undead. Noon-10pm, 2781 21st Street.
Saturday 12/26: Dance off last night’s dinner at Villany’s The Nightmare After Christmas @ the Paradise Lounge. Release your inner goth kid with DJs from Strangelove, Deathguild, and Popscene, and tons of gratuitous Tim Burton paraphernalia! 9pm, $8-$10, 21+ 1501 Folsom St.
Sunday 12/27: Why just eat breakfast when you could be having a cultural liberation brunch? Three Papayas @ Doc’s Clock combines Asian cuisine and world beats to meet all of your culturally liberated food needs. $8 per entree, 2575 Mission St.
