I found Ala Ebtekar‘s incredible art through the website of Michael Bartalos. Ala kindly agreed to share his work.
About “Zire Gonbade Kabood,” Ala told me that it features the Persian Simorgh, “the same bird in the Travels of Sinbad illustrated by Ali Akbar Sadeghi that you’ve featured. It’s used a lot in Persian fairytales and mythology.” He was referring to the second book in my last Iranian kids’ books post.
Read a 2007 interview with the artist on Fecal Face.
