Canadians, especially those who make a living selling books, are not taking kindly to the fact that “Amazon has applied to the Canadian government for permission to establish a new business on the ground” there.
“The Canadian Booksellers Association (CBA) has written to James Moore, the minister of Canadian Heritage, asking him to reject Amazon’s application because it would not respect policy designed to protect Canadian cultural industries from foreign domination. […] Amazon.ca sidestepped this regulation and has been allowed to sell books to Canadians based on the fact that it did not have a physical operation in Canada.”
