A roundup of articles related to Arizona’s new draconian immigration law.
A simple question: Is this even constitutional?
Rachel Maddow discusses the “racist roots” and people behind the new law.

Rep Grijalva (D-AZ) calls for a boycott of Arizona and is labeled a traitor by Rep. Steve King (R-IA).
Speaking of Iowa, a Republican running for office in the state recently suggested that undocumented immigrants should be microchipped… and compared them to pet dogs.

Nice and timely roundup, but the characterization of Iowa made me cringe to the point of wanting to remind folks that Iowa is not uniformly full of hatred. It’s the only state between the two coasts where same-sex marriage is legal, and has long been ahead of the Constitutional curve in terms of voting rights, property rights, and desegregation. We may have a few nut-jobs speaking loudly about the unconscionable business in Arizona, but so do other states, and I think everyone benefits when we strive to be more precise in how we talk about hatred and where it comes from.
Of course, such things are never contained to one place or state.
I also just saw this: Mexico has issued a “travel warning” for its citizens against visiting Arizona. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/laplaza/2010/04/mexico-turns-table-on-travel-advisory.html
