Mississippi Limbo

“At present, then, there is no staff at all, and there is no one here who has actually run a magazine previously.”

Frederick Barthelme, fiction writer and editor of the Mississippi Review, “will not be returning to his job as director of the University of Southern Mississippi’s creative-writing program.” That means he will also not be returning to the Review, leaving the journal in “limbo.”

Update: The Mississippi Review is now Rick Magazine. (via Tao Lin)

  1. The Rick Magazine Archive page sounds an awful lot like some sort of stand-off:

You will note that it looks like the archive of Mississippi Review Online, nominally the precursor to Rick Magazine. Well, if it does look that way it is because the editor of Rick Magazine is formerly editor of MROnline, which he put online in 1995 without the request, encouragement, or support of the university. No contracts were ever asked of or supplied to the authors, and if asked we replied to all authors that rights reverted on publication, as is customary with most first serial and first electronic serial rights.
