This week, make your Monday, discover a microhood, Tourettes Without Regrets goes XXX, and The Mission has some more artsy block parties.
Monday 7/26: Get yourself to the Fort Mason Center for Make My Monday, a gathering of artists, DJs, and the people who love them. Have a cocktail, watch the magic happen, and leave with a reasonably priced art piece ($5-50). Free, 6:30-9:30pm @ Marina Boulevard (@ Buchanan Street).
Tuesday 7/27: Let The Bold Italic introduce you to a microhood at their Mint Slope block party. Get discounts at Al’s Comics, impressive cocktails at the Orbit Room, and spectacular street food in this microhood that spans Market street from the Federal Building down to the edge of Hayes Valley. There is no official meeting point, but the party starts at 6pm and you can pick up a map from any participating vendor, or click the link for more details.
Wednesday 7/28: Whether you’re a desk jockey working 9-5 or a summer school student with senioritis (like myself), banish the humpday blues by dancing to sweet, sweet pop music at the nine year anniversary of 1964 at Edinburgh Castle. While it is neither literary, incredibly artistic, or likely to make you more appealing to the intellectual cream of the sex of your choice’s crop, it is quite possibly the most radical dance party in the city, and they’ve been rocking the best in 60’s vinyl for nearly a decade. Free (as always!), 21+, 10pm @ 950 Geary Boulevard.
Thursday 7/29: Finally, a moderately cultural excuse to grab a date, a friend, or your favorite family member (I actually wouldn’t advise that last one), and head down to the Mitchell Brothers’ infamous O’Farrell Theater! Tourettes Goes XXX is Tourettes Without Regrets‘ second appearance at the Theater, after the first collaboration of explicit art and dancing ended up completely sold out. This month: dirty comedy, slam poetry, male burlesque dancing by Roky Roulette, carnal carnival acts from the Vau De Vire Society, a zombie ragtime band, and, of course, stripper twister! Tickets $20-$40, 18+, 9pm @ 895 O’Farrell Street.
Friday 7/30: Kick off your Friday evening with a latte and an array of performance art at Dolores Park Café. What You Came For is an evening of spoken word shenanigans hosted by Missy Fuego and featuring performances by Nic Alea, Gabriel Burke, Sam Sax, and Jaime Britton. $5-7 donation at the door goes directly to the artists, 7:30-10pm @ 501 Dolores Street.
Saturday 7/31: Long love physical media! Independent traveling book store, Owl Cave, celebrates the opening of their San Francisco store for the summer with an art party at 667 Shotwell. Check out films from 667 Shotwell artists as well as Owl Cave’s newest wares. Free, 6-8pm @ 667 Shotwell Street.
Sunday 8/1: Spend your sunday in the Mission perusing new street art, listening to live music, and getting a free haircut for a good cause at the Out Side Art block party. Between 11am and 6pm, head down to 161 Erie Street (off of Mission between 14th and Duboce) to watch a live mural in the works while some of San Francisco’s best DJ’s (from Blow Up, Oldies Night, Pink Mammoth, and Roller Disco) do their thing and the San Francisco Parks Trust raises funds for youth education programs. $5 donation suggested, all ages.
