This week, The Monthly Rumpus, The Peanut Butter Plan, Rebecca Solnit at the JCCSF, and Indie Mart at Thee Parkside!
Monday 9/13: It’s the second Monday of the month, which can only mean one thing: The Monthly Rumpus! The September Monthly Rumpus, Where’s Steve? Tuesday 9/14: North Beach has The Beat Museum, but what does the Haight have? Landmarks like the Red Vic serve as impromptu museums of sorts, but now the infamous neighborhood has a paper presence: Jack and Gay Reineck’s Haight Ashbury Guide and Map celebrates its release tonight at the Haight’s favorite local bookstore, The Booksmith. 7:30pm @ 1644 Haight Street.
Wednesday 9/15: This is an idea. A plan. A peanut butter plan. The Peanut Butter Plan aims to provide hungry people with tasty food. Cheap, tasty food. In the form of peanut butter sandwiches. PBP SF is having a sandwich making party in the Duboce Triangle. Get involved through the PBP website and attend this event or create your own! 7:30pm, see website for details.
Thursday 9/16: San Francisco author, Rebecca Solnit, takes over the JCCSF’s Arts & Ideas program tonight for a reading from her newest work, Infinite City: A San Francisco Atlas. Tickets $10-20, 7-8:30pm @ 3200 California Street.
Friday 9/17: Get your burlesque on! The Hubba Hubba Revue celebrates its Four Year Anniversary at DNA Lounge with a bedazzled, corseted, and likely intoxicated variety show of pin-up performances, live comedy, and burlesque dancing. Tickets $10-15, 21+ 9pm @ 375 11th Street.
Saturday 9/18: The Iranian Film Festival begins today and spans the weekend with numerous showings at The San Francisco Art Institute. Check the website for a full list of films and times. Tickets $8-100, all day event, all showings @ 800 Chestnut Street.
Sunday 9/19: Indie Mart really needs no introduction, but in case you’ve missed the rise of San Francisco’s biggest street fair/metal concert/local designer/beer drinking/art making hootenanny, here’s the lowdown: Face melting bands play inside and DJ’s spin outside while you wander around Thee Parkside having a drink and snacking on some tater tots. Converge in the crowded beer garden back yard, or wander around the car-free stretch of Wisconsin Street where vendors like SanFranPsycho, Secession, Workshop SF, and Vintage Vantage hawk their wares. This time around, stay after 6 for a surprise band performance and after party. $3 suggested donation, all ages outside/21+ in the bar, 12-6pm @ 1600 17th Street.
