Monday 10/4: Grab your shred sled and head down to the beautiful Park Chalet for an evening of surf lit at Litquake’s Words and Waves reading/happy hour. Tuesday 10/5: Artist, Dave Cooper, holds court at the Cartoon Art Museum for the release and signing of his latest book, Bent, published by Fantagraphics Books. Cooper’s work is both dark and whimsical, and while his fine art tends toward off-kilter Rubenesque nudes, he has also contributed to cartoons like Futurama. 7pm @ 655 Mission Street.
Wednesday 10/6: Four years of to-the-death(-ish) competitive readings have culminated in a special Litquake edition of the 100th episode of Literary Death Match! Jason Bayani, David Corbett, Kari Kiernan, and Joel Selvin will vie for the attention of Jane Smiley, Mark Fiore, and W. Kamau Bell. Drinks will be cheap, and water guns will likely make an appearance at this historic death match hosted by Todd Zuniga, Alia Volz and M.G. Martin. $7-15, 21+, 7pm @ 647 Valencia Street.
Thursday 10/7: A celebration of everyday objects and daily life, Creativity Explored’s Ritual/Habitual exhibits opens with a reception from 7-9pm. Free and all ages @ 3245 16th Street.
Friday 10/8: Downtown shows its artsy side in 25 galleries and businesses along 6th Street with 2 Blocks of Art. The art walk spans 6th between Market and Howard, and features happy hour specials from many of the vendors along the two block stretch. 4-8pm.
Saturday 10/9: Innumerable authors take over bars, cafés, laundromats, and mission alleys in three phases for Litcrawl, the cherry on the annual Litquake sundae. All events free, some 21+, 6-9:30pm all over the damn place!
Sunday 10/10: It’s 10/10/10! Celebrate accordingly at the Exploratorium’s 10/10/10 – An Auspicious Day to Celebrate the Powers of Ten, The Relative Scale of Things, and the Ideas and Work of Charles and Ray Eames. The Exploratorium will investigate the Eames’ contributions to education, architecture, design, manufacturing, cinema and photography and their friendship with the museum’s founder, Frank Oppenheimer. Events will take place throughout the day, and a calendar can be found on the event’s website. $10-15, 10am-5pm @ 3601 Lyon Street.
