Some would say that just having grandchildren makes a woman a superhero. If I live to be so old, I only hope my grandchildren will be as spectacularly awesome as photographer Sacha Goldberger is:

A few years ago, French photographer Sacha Goldberger found his 91-year-old Hungarian grandmother Frederika feeling lonely and depressed. To cheer her up, he suggested that they shoot a series of outrageous photographs in unusual costumes, poses, and locations.

Julie Greicius was Art Editor for The Rumpus when it launched in January 2009. One year later, she became Senior Literary Editor, and later, Senior Features Editor. Julie also co-edited the first book published by The Rumpus, Rumpus Women, Vol. 1, featuring personal essays and illustration from twenty kick-ass contributors. Her writing been featured on The Rumpus, Midnight Breakfast, Stanford Medicine Magazine, and BuzzFeed, as well as in the anthology The 27th Mile. Mamika is sooooooo cool! What a great project, what great pix!

That car is an Isetta; my Dad had one back in the early 60s as his “commuter” car. When it was time for him to arrive home from work my brother and sister and even a couple of neighbor kids would run up the street and we’d meet him and all pile into this tiny barely two-seater car – the door opened from the front. Then he’d drive us all home, laughing and giggling and feeling like it was just so NEAT to be crammed into this stinky little car.

Obviously a time before seat belts and safety seats. Somehow we survived! =)
