When the residents of the small British town Stony Stratford heard that the town council voted to close the library due to budget cuts, they decided to do something drastic, clear the shelves. The library held about 16,000 books, but “Now, after a campaign on Facebook, there are none. Every library user was urged to pick their full entitlement of 15 books, take them away and keep them for a week…The empty shelves, as the library users want to demonstrate, represent the gaping void in their community if Milton Keynes council gets its way.” (via The Guardian)
