Works for children by the Czech artist Josef Lada (1887 – 1957):

(detail of the above)
These images from the 1953 Czech collection Detem come from all parts of Lada’s career. (Note the dates in some of the images.) A commenter on my previous Lada post pointed out that “one of the specifics of Josef Lada is that if you observe his work it does not change much during the years.”
The book seems to be divided into seasons (and reminded me that winter will eventually end), so I took the opportunity to finally name a post after a Bobbie Gentry song (also notable for a rare use of the word “rivulets” in a pop song).
I recommend viewing these large.

I’ve never seen these before! I love his illustrations for The Good Soldier Svejk. I’ve read that George Grosz also contributed drawings to Svejk, but I’ve never seen them. They share a lot in common, but I can’t picture Lada drawing a vomiting prostitute being beaten by a cigar smoking capitalist.
If you like Lada’s drawings, you might look for a cartoon called Krtek on Youtube. It’s like Lada’s drawings in motion.
