Bad News Borders

Yesterday we mentioned that Borders had filed for bankruptcy.

Well this morning brings more bad news for the country’s second largest bookstore chain, as the corporation will most likely be closing 75 more branches than originally reported.

  1. I guess you guys print all the news that’s fit to print on books, et al., but The Rumpus’s stance on the big box bookstores was pretty clear when the Book Club decided to do Jonathan Franzen’s FREEDOM as a one-off:

“Books purchased from Barnes and Noble, Borders, and Amazon are ineligible.”

Which inspired a little back-and-forth in the comments section from several people, including a manager of a Borders bookstore.

So, what’s The Rumpus line on Borders closing? Good for indie booksellers? or Bad for Books?

    Just wondering.
