Ladies and Gentlemen, the 2011 Music Issue of the Believer Magazine is upon us. This year’s issue has got some unprecedented audible sensations, which I will relay in the following list:
1. Trey Anastasio of Phish is interviewed for this issue (did you know that’s rare?). You’ll find out about improvisation exercises, their tempo issues of the early 90’s and more which you can find out about in full-text.
2. Paul Collins discusses the boredom-inspired, short-lived Chrysler dashboard turntable, once loved and then forgotten. Luckily, you can read about all the ups and downs here.
3. And the contemporary composer-themed CD (!), which is summed up in the following sentence: “All of the tracks on this compilation come from the musical ether in which the contemporary composer floats.” Whoa. All great things come from the ether!
4. And, as if the CD wasn’t enough to maintain your excitement for two months, there’s a conversation between Brian Eno and David Mitchell, as well as David Byrne and Tom Zé, two new poems from Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Rae Armantrout and really amazing interviews with Martha Wainwright and Julianna Barwick.
