There another Gatsby adaptation in the works. F Scott Fitzgerald’s American masterpiece has resurfaced over and over again—as a couple films, as an orchestral production by the Madison Symphony, a theater piece, a spin-off novel and an opera. The desire to reproduce Gatsby might have something to do with its perpetual relevance. American excess, impending recessions couched in “lyrical prose”—these themes are all too familiar.

The latest Gatsby production is yet another film—this one’s starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan.
